Koyaanisqatsi II -- A Road Trip
page 8

Optional Side Trips   Chasing Star KachinaWe stopped at Meteor Crater which was a prehistoric pit in the ground where some celestial object decided to end its journey many eons ago. Maybe it was attracted from space by the intensity of the natural and Indian mysticism in this part of the universe. There was a very long road leading into it that didn't look was leading anywhere. Each time we were about to give up and turn back came another sign "Site of Ancient Visitors from Outer Space". Another ½ mile, then it was "Apollo Astronauts Training Area". Another ½ mile became "Don't Miss the Most Amazing Scientific Discovery of All Time". We eventually came to it, and it was indeed very, very big. Unfortunately we never found out a lot of details about it because the brief history was too long for anyone to finish reading. There were in the museum bits of meteors, space suits, and a space capsule. The place had one of the better gift shops we'd been to yet.

rainbowBack into the car for more cloud, rainbow and lightning shows. We stopped in Winslow for groceries at a Bauhaus supermarket. Winslow was a real nasty place -- Indian slums, dust, and a feeling of doom hanging over it. No wonder the guy in the song was trying to get out of there.

I'm standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
I'm such a fine sight to see
